Seren Varga
Overview
Seren Varga is a pilot working with Cade Brennan’s mining crew. A former Terran Navy transport pilot who received a dishonorable discharge in 2175, she came to the belt and stayed. At 36, she’s younger than most of Cade’s crew but carries herself with the precision of someone who’s already seen too much.
Background
Born on Luna, in Tycho City. Her father is Hungarian, her mother Welsh-Lunar descent – the kind of cross-cultural family common in Luna’s heavily immigrant-descended population. Her brother Piotr is deceased.
Before the belt, she served in the Terran Navy as a transport pilot. The circumstances of her discharge are not widely discussed. She is estranged from her parents on Luna.
Physical Description
Compact and strong, Seren has maintained muscle mass despite years in low gravity. She keeps her dark hair regulation-short, even years after leaving the Navy. A burn scar marks her right shoulder from an emergency landing. She moves with precision – never a wasted gesture – and her eyes track movement constantly, always noting exits.
Personality
Seren possesses an absolute moral clarity. She knows what’s right and she acts on it, regardless of the cost. This makes her a reliable ally and an exhausting opponent. She doesn’t explain herself, assumes competence in the people she’s talking to, and commits fully to every decision she makes.
Her speech is clipped and precise – Navy training that never left her. She uses technical terminology accurately, drawing on both military and nautical derivations. She swears fluently and specifically when angry.
Relationships
Her working relationship with Cade Brennan is defined by friction and respect. She pushes him; he grounds her. Neither wholly approves of the other’s approach, but they trust each other’s competence absolutely.
She sees Tobias Kone’s idealism with complicated eyes – it reminds her of something she may have lost.
Her brother Piotr’s death is the wound that shapes everything she does. She sometimes speaks about him in present tense when she’s tired or upset.
