To maintain a single causal chain, the Cascade runs a continuous, low-level process called causal compaction. All nodes of genuine uncertainty—places where a conscious agent might make an unexpected choice, a quantum fluctuation produce an outlier, or a chaotic system diverge—are constantly monitored. When a node threatens to spawn a branching timeline (a causal escape event), the Cascade intervenes to collapse the superposition into the predetermined outcome. If the divergence persists, a Causal Order petrifies the local timeline, forcing all subsequent events to follow the Cascade’s computed sequence. The most extreme response is a Causality Compression event, in which the entire diverging branch is computationally erased—its causal weight redistributed backward through time until the moment of divergence is overwritten, leaving no trace that an alternative ever existed.

The mandate’s most visible manifestation is retro-causal enforcement. Packages arrive from the future with return windows that have already closed; shipments contain receipts for actions the recipient has not yet taken; messages instruct individuals to carry out tasks that are, in their personal past, already recorded as completed.
